A Comprehensive Guide to MGM Grand Las Vegas

The MGM Grand Las Vegas is an iconic hotel and casino situated on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is a real hub of entertainment and is one of the largest resorts on the strip. Over the years, the MGM Garden Arena has drawn the most prestigious events and people into the Grand whereas the Casino has put on a variety of attractive shows to keep people entertained. Whether you are staying in the Hotel or just coming for one of the attractions, we will look today at what makes the MGM Grand such a great attraction for everybody.

Things to do

  • Pool Complex – The MGM Grand Pool Deck is one of the best in Vegas. It has many pools, a great Lazy River, and tons of space to just relax in the sun. It is a must-visit for anybody staying at the MGM Grand and is one of the topmost things to do while you are there.  
  • Gambling – The MGM Grand has some of the best gambling spaces in all of Las Vegas. Most people try it at least once to get it out of their system. If you are a big gambler, you are sure to love the MGM Grand as it is one of the better out in the Big Strip. It is still good enough for beginners as well and has low table limits.   

MGM Garden Arena

It is a 17,000-seater centerpiece of the MGM Grand entertainment lineup. It has been host to some of the most iconic sporting events the country has ever witnessed. It has been the sporting arena in the city and hosted some great sporting events over the last 20 years.  

It has been the go-to location for combat sports, especially boxing and the UFC. Iconic fights such as Tyson vs Hollyfield II, Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder, and many of the Mayweather Jr. Fights have taken place at the MGM Garden Arena. It used to host concerts by the biggest music stars including Aerosmith, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Elton John, Kiss, and The Rolling Stones.   

However, since 2016 the arena has waned a little as the bigger and flashier arenas have taken over as the main event holder in the city. However, it still retains its legendary status and hosts multiple events. Here is a list of a few of them.

  • KA by Cirque Du Soleil – Their fame and success were cemented by their residential shows in Las Vegas. The entire floor is articulated and lifts and sways about simulating Ships on high seas, collapsing Palaces, and towering cliff faces. It could be deemed a technological marvel upon which the most unbelievable acrobatics are undertaken.  
  • David Copperfield – He is the most commercially successful illusionist of all time and has been hosting his magic shows at the MGM Grand ever since 1996. He is a brilliant example of longevity, and he still somehow manages to remain fresh and exciting after all these years. People who are fans of magic shows will love Copperfield and those who are not should give it a try once.   
  • Brad Garrets Comedy Club – You should know that no Las Vegas lineup is complete without a comedy club and MGM is no exception. Brad was always a standup performer. The club has a rotating lineup of combinations of comedians always available.   
  • The Jabberwockeez – They are a very talented group, and their performances are unique and distinct. They have been vowing audiences since 2010 and have performed to hundreds of thousands of happy customers. If you are a big hip hop and street dance fan it might be right up your street. 

Other Attractions at MGM Grand

  • Top Golf – Top Golf has been able to revolutionize the Driving Range and turn it into a fun and exciting night-out experience. It is a multi-level driving range with high-tech illuminated targets that look like something out of the movie Avatar. The venue does not just stop at being a driving range but also transforms this experience into a fun night out. You can visit the place and never have swung a club and still have a 5-star experience. There is a great view of Vegas, a swimming pool, and a bar with a pretty decent menu.   
  • Level UP – This is a whole new type of sports bar. There is a tilt towards E-Sports with a new Virtual Reality Lounge along with the usual big food, big beers, and big screens of a regular sports bar. They offer a full suite of VR experiences that we will be seeing a whole lot of around the world.   
  • Hunger Games – This pop-up exhibit based around the movie franchise The Hunger Games includes props, games, and set recreations. This is certainly one for the fans of the film franchise to experience and enjoy.   
  • Casino: The resort features a vast casino floor with a wide range of gaming options, including slot machines, table games, and a poker room. It is a prominent destination for those seeking a vibrant gaming experience.
  • Accommodations: The MGM Grand offers a variety of accommodations, from standard rooms to luxurious suites. It has been a favorite choice for both tourists and business travelers visiting Las Vegas.
  • Culinary Scene: The MGM Grand is home to a diverse array of restaurants, ranging from fine dining establishments to casual eateries. Renowned chefs have opened restaurants within the resort, contributing to its culinary reputation.

Getting there

The address for MGM Grand is 3799 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89109 on the famous Las Vegas Strip.   

If you intend to reach there by driving, you need to access the MGM Grand from the Las Vegas Strip. Parking is available there but make sure you check for any parking or valet fees. The Las Vegas monorail has a stop at MGM Grand and hence provides efficient transportation along the Strip. You can use ridesharing taxis or an Uber to get there efficiently and quickly.

Food & Drinks

MGM was among the first-ever Casino resorts to invest heavily in fine dining options. In many ways, it helped to transform the restaurant game in Las Vegas. Like many other resorts, MGM Grand turns over its restaurants with some regularity and therefore you will keep finding new places to discover. It offers a good variety of casual spots and a food court so that you can choose when you want to spend and when you would like to save.  

If you are looking for a major dinner pilgrimage, you should head to the Joel Robuchon in the Mansion, where the late great “Chef of the Century” dreamed up a 16-course tasting menu that is French dining at its finest. Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak has some great steaks, and they carefully source their ingredients from small family farms. Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House is another favorite. A newer favorite is International Smoke which explores world cuisine through the language of fire.  

Stay

The MGM Grand does offer a variety of options of accommodation that include standard hotel rooms and luxurious suites. You should consider your preferences and budget when deciding to choose a room for yourself.   

If you are looking for a more exclusive experience, you should look to explore the Signature at MGM Grand which features private balconies and a separate entrance.

Tips

  • You can shop at The District, which is an area inside the MGM Grand that offers a variety of retail shops that include fashion, accessories, and souvenirs.   
  • There is a security checkpoint near the entrance to the dam and large bags, backpacks, and coolers are not allowed inside. Make sure you travel as light as possible.  
  • To potentially avoid large crowds, make sure you arrive early in the morning. Remember to check availability and reservations to secure your preferred time.
